World Bicycle Day 2024
On June 3rd, 2024, the Versatile Club of Rayburn College in collaboration with Highland organized a vibrant celebration to commemorate World Bicycle Day. The event aimed to promote the benefits of cycling, raise awareness about environmental sustainability, and encourage a healthy and active lifestyle.
Mr. John Khammuanlal Gwite, a renowned cyclist from the Zomi Cycling Club, served as the esteemed resource person for the event. He shared his expertise, experience, and passion for cycling, inspiring the audience with his remarkable journey in the world of competitive cycling. His insights encouraged individuals to embrace cycling as a means of improving physical fitness and reducing carbon emissions.
Informative sessions were held to educate the participants about the health benefits of cycling and its positive impact on the environment. The campaigns also emphasized the significance of adopting cycling as a preferred mode of transportation for short distances, reducing traffic congestion and air pollution.
The World Health Organization (WHO) actively promotes cycling for health benefits, including increased physical activity and reduced noncommunicable diseases. A 2022 UN General Assembly resolution reinforces integrating bicycling into public transportation systems for sustainable development.
