“Sociology and Its Prospects”

The Department of Sociology at Rayburn College hosted an interactive session on June 20th, 2024, focusing on the theme “Sociology and Its Prospects.” The session took place in the Faculty Lounge and featured Dr. Roluahpuia, Assistant Professor of Sociology from the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee.

Dr. Roluahpuia provided an overview of sociology as a discipline concerned with understanding social structures, interactions, and dynamics within societies. He emphasized its interdisciplinary nature and relevance in addressing contemporary social issues. The session explored recent trends and methodologies in sociological research. He highlighted the integration of new technologies and qualitative approaches in studying complex social phenomena. Participants gained insights into diverse career paths available in sociology, including roles in academia, research institutions, policy-making bodies, NGOs, and social advocacy organizations. He also discussed the skills and competencies essential for pursuing successful careers in these fields. The session facilitated interactive discussions among attendees, focusing on current sociological themes such as globalization, inequality, urbanization, and environmental sustainability. 

The interactive session concluded with a reflection on the transformative potential of sociology in addressing societal challenges and promoting social justice. Participants expressed appreciation for the session’s insights and its contribution to their understanding of sociology as a field of study and practice.
