The Registrar of Rayburn College, Dr. Samuel G Ngaihte, was invited to participate in the second edition of the Penguin Presents White Owl Literature Festival & Book Fair, organized on the 17-19th February 2025 at Zone Niathu by the Park, Chumoukedima, Nagaland. The three-day event was organized by the White Owl Book Lounge, Dimapur in collaboration with Penguin, and was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Nagaland, Shri Neiphui Rio.
The theme for the second edition of the pioneering and biggest literary celebration in the northeast of India was ‘Inspire, Imagine, Inscribe’, which involved three days of storytelling, workshops, panel discussions, musical celebrations, cultural performances, and learning together, with over 70 invited speakers from various backgrounds including authors, researchers, educationists, institution builders, social workers, sports legends, and civil servants.
As part of the panel entitled ‘Frontiers, Corridors, Connectivities: A Conversation on Writing About the Indo-Myanmar Borderland’, which includes Sanjoy Hazarika, Mmhonlumo Kikon, Patricia Mukhim and Golan Naulak, the Registrar of Rayburn discussed the conceptual challenges of situating the Indo-Myanmar Borderland writings, while also highlighting the importance of promoting the vernacular writings particularly among the borderland communities, such as the Zo (Chin-Kuki-Lushai[Mizo]’ people-group.
