ECONOMICS DEPARTMENT

Introduced in 2024, the Department of Economics at Rayburn Autonomous College boasts being the youngest department compared to its counterparts.

Administratively falling under the School of Social Sciences, the department is set to take off and will kickstart its first-ever Undergraduate course with 18 meritorious students admitted for the 1st batch.

Faculty members comprise Assistant Professor Emmanuel Lalneimawi Hmar (HoD) and Assistant Professor Khaigoulen Touthang.

In order to cater to the objectives laid down by NEP 2020 and to fulfill the set of norms and regulations under UGC, the department outlines some long-term aspirations which are incorporated in this statement of vision.

The department aspires to be a leading center of excellence in economic research, education, and community engagement, fostering a deeper understanding of economic principles and their applications to address global and local challenges.

The department desires to raise the bar of higher education by introducing Postgraduate courses in the near future.

The department’s mission is to provide quality education in the field of economics, to conduct innovative research, and to contribute to policy formulation and economic development. This center of study aims to equip students with the analytical skills, knowledge, and ethical foundations necessary to succeed in diverse careers and to make meaningful contributions to society.

Apart from these, the close proximity of the college to ASEAN countries—Myanmar in particular—will help tap the potential of the GOI’s Act East Policy if successfully implemented.
