About the Department

The Department of Zoology at Rayburn College was established in the year 2020 and runs a full time B.Sc. Honours course in Zoology. The department seeks to provide practical and theoretical knowledge of animal science and their ecology and impart knowledge and skills in Zoological Science to its students. It is committed to nurturing and growing students who are able to fully comprehend and appreciate the beauty of nature and in turn shoulder the responsibility of introducing solutions for the betterment of the environment and humankind.

The department guides its students to explore and investigate all aspects of organisms from the animal kingdom, including the structure, embryology, evolution, classification habits and distribution of all animals, both living and extinct, and how they interact with their ecosystems.

Mission

  • To understand and appreciate the vast diversity of living things, their special adaptations to their environment, and their evolutionary and ecologic relationship.
  • To provide a strong foundation in the concepts of animal structure, function, and behaviour.
  • To inculcate critical thinking and analytical skills to enable students to pursue higher studies and research in Life Sciences or related fields of Zoology.
