The Department of English was established in the year 2010 to cater to the growing demand for an Honours degree in English. The department aspires for excellence both in academics and overall development of students and faculty, and aims at promoting proficiency within the interdisciplinary field of literature and linguistics, fostering in students a deep understanding of literary concepts and their interpretations. It also seeks to grom the students to be subjectively aware of the life around them through its varied representations, be mentally and physically healthy, be considerate to other individuals through empathy, and have the ability to apply their knowledge of self and the other as a responsible citizen.
The department promotes a high-quality teaching-learning experience, mentoring and an orientation towards research and skill building through the curriculum as well as through co-curricular activities. Faculty members both in the past and present have worked to the best of their abilities, teaching and helping students realise their potentialities to the utmost level, both inside and outside the classroom. The department is also committed to guiding and helping students explore the field of literature within and beyond the syllabus. Prominent among them is the use of classroom discussions, presentations, seminars, workshops, interaction with experts, film-based discussion and extension activities.
Other than teaching, the faculty members are interested in the expansion and development of the subject and have undertaken various research projects. They are also members of various professional associations, and participate in different seminars, workshops and conferences at the national and international level. The faculty members are also actively involved in different committees of the college including Internal Quality Assessment Cell, Research and Development Cell, Women Development Cell, Magazine Committee and others.
The department has produced toppers and University Rank Holders sporadically since its inception in the year 2010.

The department has a sizeable number of books (around 770 approx.) in the college library pertaining to the papers in the syllabus which are easily accessible to the students and faculty. The classrooms are well-equipped to enhance learning and its dissemination. The department faculty room has ample space and is well-furnished to accommodate the requirements of the teachers.
