Department of Geography

About the Department

The Department of Geography at Rayburn College was established in the year 2012 and was an outcome of the ardent efforts of the college administration and capable pioneering faculty members. The vision of the department is to be recognized as an outstanding department, dedicated to understanding, explaining, and improving the spatial communities and geographic conditions of people and be a center of excellence for teaching, research, and education in geography at the local, regional, and national levels. Emphasizing both theoretical and applied areas in all of its degree programs, it endeavours to cultivate academic excellence and impart creativity and wisdom by providing a challenging education through innovative teaching, community engagement, and outreach to both students and alumni.

The department has worked to teach undergraduate (UG) students not just the fundamentals of geography but also its empirical knowledge and applications since its founding. The geography department has been doing well in both academic and practical classes, such as research projects and field surveys. Given that geography is primarily an applied field of study, the faculty is dedicated to teaching students about the critical interrelationships between humans and the environment. Today, the department is proud to be equipped with state-of-the art technologies indispensable for training and skill development in geographic applications. The department began its post-graduate (PG) programme from the year 2024.
