Rayburn College observes National Science Day 2023

Lamka, February 28, 2023:  Rayburn College Gangpimual, Churachandpur, Manipur, is celebrating “National Science Day” today. This program was conducted under the auspices of Science Club Rayburn College and started at 12:00 noon in room W3-11 with the theme “Global Science for Global Well-Being” It was sponsored by Community Development Services (CDS), Lamka, ONE Hair Academy & Studio, Lamka and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).

The program was co-organized by Ms. Grace Chinghoinuam, Department of Botany, and Sir Zamitlian, Department of Chemistry, Rayburn College. Dr. Kh. Thianminlian Vaiphei, Vice-Principal, Rayburn College, delivered the welcome address, followed by an introductory speech by Sir Paokhothang Kipgen, Department of Physics, Rayburn College. This program was specially designed for the 4th and 6th semester B.Sc. students.

In this programme, Dr. Siamkhanthang Neihsial, Coordinator of IQAC, Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry, delivered a “Science Talk” on “Raman Effect and its Applications”. He narrated the history and origin of National Science Day to the audience present.

He explained that National Science Day is celebrated to commemorate the discovery of the Raman effect by Physics Nobel Laureate Sir C.V. Raman on February 28, 1928. National Science Day is celebrated to spread the message of the importance of science and its application among people, and to encourage scientifically minded people to make new discoveries and inventions for a better society. He also talks about wavelength and frequency, the electromagnetic spectrum, the visible spectrum, the scattering of light by prisms, the scattering of light by molecules, Rayleigh scattering and Raman scattering, and an application of Raman scattering.

For this special occasion, the Science Club organised various competitions, including debates and exhibitions for students in mixed forms. The debate competition was held under the theme “Does Life Science or Natural Science Contribute More to Global Change?” under the leadership of Sir Thanggoulen Hangshing and Miss Seityapriya Thongbram.

After all these things were settled, a very important item followed, which was the announcement of the results of the painting competition and the debating competition for the day. This was followed by the last item which was the vote of thanks proposed by Sir Achung Kom, Department of Chemistry, Rayburn College.

Thereafter, the programme was successfully concluded and all the participants partook of the refreshments provided by the club.
